Reading with Reception class
'Starbooks Reading!'
In year six one of our many focuses is pleasure for reading. As an incentive to read for pleasure the children operate their own 'Starbooks' Shop. Once your child has read 50 times they are then allowed to visit our very own 'Starbooks' Shop and enjoy a 'Starbooks' with a friend. Well done to everyone who has made it already, he is to round two!
Home reading
Reading at home is vital, as previously mentioned we operate our 'Starbooks system'. The children are loving bringing a friend to enjoy a warm treat (especially as it gets colder outside). Please ensure that your child reads each evening and then records a sentence or two in their reading log- this keeps it fair! A read should last at least 15 minutes and the text should be either a school book, an ability appropriate text, a newspaper etc. Once we move to our new scheme, this will be their main text.
