A Brief Guide 

Medlar with Wesham Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School offers education within a Christian community for children of 4 to 11 years who are taught in seven classes.

The school was built in 1880 with two classrooms and a hall and was enlarged to four classrooms some years later.  In 1991 a self-contained Reception classroom was added with its own cloakroom, facilities and outside play area.  A two class demountable unit was added in 1995 and a new office, library and ICT area completed in 2003. In 2010 an extension was added to include a new entrance, infant library, junior library and Learning Resource Centre opened by the Right Reverend Nicholas Reade Lord Bishop of Blackburn.

We are constantly reviewing the provision that we can offer our children to make sure that they have the best start in their educational journey. The most recent additions to the building have been:

Recent Changes To Our School 

January 2012

 ‘The Pavilion’.  This is a brand new building together with their own outside playing space, sited on the school field.  The Pavilion was opened by Jimmy Arnfield from Blackpool Football club and officially blessed by the Rt Rev. Nicholas Reade, Bishop of Blackburn.  The new classrooms are pupose built for modern teaching.  There is also a small learning support room, kitchen and new toilet facilities.  Interactive whiteboards, laptops and computer technology all add to the excellent provision that is provided by our teachers.

May 2012

The new kitchen was opened and we now serve hot, cold and packed lunches in school. This is a very flexible facility and parents can order a school lunch in advance or on a daily basis if they are running a bit late in the morning.  Meals are cooked from fresh and the cook makes sure that the recommended daily requirements for dietary nutrition are catered for.  Having this facility means that we can put on special 'Theme Days'.  

April 2013

Children love learning outside. The covered outdoor canopy for the Foundation Stage children was added so that the continuous provision, learning inside and outside the classroom, is uninterrupted by the weather conditions. Our youngest children make full use of the wonderful activities that this space provides.

February 2015 

The trim trail was opened. The trim trail is placed up at the Pavillion, which the school council was involved in planning. Children of all years enjoy making use of the trim trail during play times, physical education and even mathematics. Chrildren love this facility and it is used on a daily basis. 

September 2016

Our Early Years Foundation Stage classroom has been completely re-modelled and refurbished extending into a previously underused area.  The toilets in the the EYFS unit have also been upgraded with a complete refurbishment.

The Key Stage 1 toilets have now been extended to be twice the size.  This refurbishment means that the boys and girls each have their own toilet blocks.

September 2017

A new dedicated Learning Mentor room has been created as well as an additional small learning support room for key stage 1.
