Narratives

We have been reading two books in Year 4 'The Molehouse Cat' by Antonia Barber and 'The Water Horse' by Dick King- Smith. The children wrote their own extract from the book The Molehouse Cat. They focused on describing their boat trip in the midst of a huge storm. They used some fantastic similes, noun phrases and adverbials to describe their senses on this trip!

Non Chronological Reports

We have been creating our own Non Chronological Reports in English. We chose to create one on the Spanish festival 'La Tomatina.' We researched the festival and gathered information for our reports, we learnt what grammar features we should use and then created our reports!

The children wrote a setting description based on our book: 'The Ice Palace' by Robert Swindell. They used figurative language, expanded noun phrases and their senses to create a magical world.

The children were presented with four images and had to create a setting description based on this.

We have started looking at persuasive writing in Year 4!

Last week we started looking at examples of persuasive writing and thinking about what key features we would need to include in our own persuasive piece. The children came up with some fantastic persuasive phrases.

The children wrote their own persuasive speeches, some of their ideas were fantastic! They used lots of persuasive phrases, time conjunctions, adverbs and alliteration! We then created our own persuasive adverts. The children practised their intonation and acting skills.

We focused on newspaper reports, the children chose a Christmas theme!

We looked at the 5 Ws: who, what, where, when and why. They used fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases, conjunctions and pronouns in their writing.

The children use green editing pens to edit and improve their work.

We have been drafting our own stories based on our class book 'The Firework Maker's Daughter', which we have all loved!

The children created their own character, setting and plot and edited their work using our green editing pens to improve their language and grammar.
