Today we have written our own Jubilee poems inspired by the up and coming Platinum Jubilee. We have learnt about jubilee celebrations and more facts about our Queen.

This week the children have been writing their own Kennings poem about a rainforest creature.  We know that a Kennings poem is like a riddle and the the reader has to guess the subject of the poem.  The poems consist of nouns and verbs.  Can you guess which rainforest creatures our poems are about?

Thursday 12th May 2022.

Inspired by animals from the book ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ the children have worked hard to produce a non chronological report about the creature that interests them the most. We know what a non chronological report is and it’s features.

Today was all about encouraging the children to be interested in the wider world to introduce our new theme of Rainforests. The children were fabulous at working together in teams and having confidence in each other as well as themselves whilst taking part in ‘I’m in Year 3, Get Me Out of Here’ bush tucker trials. 😀 I look forward to sharing our information texts in the coming weeks all about the rainforest.

Year 3 have been inspired by Roald Dahl’s story ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’  We have written stories in the style of Roald Dahl using synonyms to add drama and excitement as well as made up words, just like Roald Dahl has done in various books.  We have become more confident in applying speech marks in our writing.

World Book Day 2022

The children dressed up as a character from their favourite book.  We had some wonderful costumes.

To promote our love of reading on World Book Day, we found a comfy place in our classroom and spent time reading a book of our choice.

The children wrote poems based on the story Love is... Today, we wrote poems called Reading is....

Reading Is...

Reading is comfy when you are in bed,

Reading is exciting like you're in a different world,

Reading is fun when the book is good,

Reading is joyful when you're reading with a friend,

Reading is bright like the sun,

Reading is good, it takes you to a happy place.

By Eli.

Reading Is....

Reading is special when all of your family are together,

Reading is magical because it takes you into unsearched lands,

Reading is cozy when you snuggle up,

Reading is exciting getting lost in adventure in a faraway land,

Reading is relaxing on a comfy couch.

Our class book this half term is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have been inspired by the character Willy Wonka being the most inventive chocolate maker and Roald Dahl has taken us on a magical adventure. So during World Book Day we designed and made our very own sweet treat.  The person eating our ‘magical sweet kebabs’ were going to be in for a real treat. The bunny marshmallows would give them bunny ears, the dinosaur sprinkles would give them claws and if they were lucky enough to have a strawberry in their sweet kebab they would turn pink.

This half term we are reading Stig of the Dump by Clive King.  So far we have been looking at the characters of Barney and Stig and using the evidence in the text to develop our thoughts and feelings.  We have been trying really hard to increase our vocabulary and use some wow words.  Some examples of wow words from the children have been ‘bewildered, baffled, despondent, disorientated, contented just to name a few. We used drama to help us understand the meaning of this wonderful vocabulary.

We have been writing poetry titled ‘Without the Dark.’
