Music Curriculum Statement of Intent- 

At Medlar with Wesham Primary School, our vision is that all pupils will have opportunity to make music with others, to learn to sing and play a musical instrument to enable our children to become resilient and confident musicians. The curriculum provides children with engaging and inspiring music lessons which should develop their creativity and love of music.  Music teaching starts in the early years, and we want the vision to extend across all five to eleven year-olds, both in and out of school, in both formal and informal settings.

In school we will teach towards the National Curriculum requirements for music through the use of Charanga’s English Model Music Curriculum.  We will, wherever possible, make meaningful links with the other subjects through our knowledge-based curriculum and have a focus on vocabulary. We will endeavour to take our children on a musical journey around the world and celebrate a diverse range of musical styles, genres and artists. We will aim to provide children with experiences that will ensure they acquire knowledge and skills in music. We endeavour children to become curious learners who are interested in the wider world and have the resilience and confidence to succeed in life.
